Quiet times

Not much happening, but the weather is definitely changing. No more unrelenting sunshine, though the heat remains, and, if possible, the humidity has risen. It's been threatening rain every day for the last few, and the forecast is for the same for the foreseeable future. It's good though.

I'm still banging out an 8:30 to 8:40 pace on my runs, but I am sweating it a bit more with the higher humidity and less wind to dry it off. Nothing like looking like you've been swimming in your running gear when you get done, and even before the obligatory oceanic dip at the end.

I've had a few additional animal sightings along the way: a red-crested woodpecker and an osprey both were at Clyde's Pond yesterday, and I saw a variegated squirrel on my way back from the grocery today. It's always nice to see something new!

I'm heading west later this week to see more of the country. Who knows, maybe there'll be something more interesting to report on than my current mundane and rather dull existence living small in Panama.

Should we consider all that running you did in Kansas City as training for the Panama humidity? Here in western NV conditions have been excruciatingly dry thus far in 2022. I have recorded a total of 0.39" for the Jan-Mar period, which is just about 6.5% of average. This is by far the driest Jan-Mar on my record. My record only extends back to 2000, but I'm certain all local long standing data sets will agree. This storm season was neutered on Jan 1. Remarkably, many locations are still near, or even slightly above, average for the water year due to one mega storm in Oct and also due to a 16 day period in December.

I don't know if the running in KS qualifies. It's been so long, I don't recall just how bad the humidity was. But here? Here is something else, especially in the last week or so. It's an assault. After an hour, nothing I have on has even the smallest dry spot, and everything is wringable. If shoes could be wrung, even they would produce!

The drought sounds horrible. I suggest you and Shan skip town in the next few months and head, oh, I don't know, several thousand miles south and east and come visit and experience the humidity, and beach life.

Whaddya say?

I say yay. But, yeah, probably not going to happen this year. Looking forward to the TRT event, though. See you at the finish line, for sure.
