I dropped my stuff, unpacked the “big” case for the first time in five weeks, hung its contents to de-wrinkle and air out (seriously, I didn’t need that many pairs of undershorts - what was I thinking?), and set off to (a) get a SIM card for my phone, and (2) food and beer. The first took me a while, because I set off searching at 2:30 and the place was closed until 4:30. They follow siesta hours in Lanzarote!
It was easy-peasy once they opened. Deis y cinco minutós y viente Euro later, I had mi tarjeta de SIM installed. 35 GB for a month. Should be enough data, since I don’t stream on the phone. I just want it for maps and stuff.
After that it was beer and food. Found a place that seemed good, and I tried three different beers and liked them all. The cheeseburger was decent. All told, food and beer ran me only €10.50 – about half what it would cost in NYC.
The last stop was Spar, the local grocery for some breakfast items por la mañana. Since I have a full kitchen, why not? I then crashed. Hard. I was in bed, asleep for most of it (except for a span of 90 minutós around 1-2) for nearly twelve hours. I can’t remember a time when I’d last done that. Numerous –five? six? near sleepless nights in a row (El unicorn, are you there?!) and a long flight had finally taken their toll.
Woke and ran, more grocery shopping, walking, and I caught a high school (I think) soccer game at the city stadium. I even got my feet wet in the ocean as I walked la playa. Now? Since it’s 4:00 pm, it’s time for food and beer, of course. Today is pizza. Apparently, it’s quite good here.
I haven’t taken a lot of photos, but here are a few.
